Lorenzo Vigas se convierte en el año 2015 en el primer Latinoamericano en conseguir el prestigioso León de Oro en el 72 Festival de Cine de Venecia por su largometraje Desde allá. Habiéndose graduado como biólogo en el año de 1994, fue mientras realizaba una maestría en biología molecular que decide trasladarse a Nueva York para cursar talleres de cine en New York University. Posteriormente, trabaja en Caracas dirigiendo la serie documental Expedición, producida por RCTV, y dirigiendo documentales institucionales para la empresa productora Cinesa. En el año 2004 estrena en La Semana Internacional de la Crítica del Festival de Cannes,  su cortometraje Los Elefantes Nunca Olvidan, primera parte de la trilogía que desarrolla sobre el tema de la figura paterna, siendo Desde allá la segunda parte. En el año 2016 presenta en la Sección Oficial del 73 Festival de Cine de Venecia, el  largometraje documental sobre su padre, el maestro de las artes plásticas latinoamericano, Oswaldo Vigas, titulado El vendedor de orquídeas. Actualmente prepara el rodaje de la última parte de su trilogía, el largometraje La caja, a ser filmado en México a finales del año 2017.

Lorenzo Vigas becomes in year 2015, the first Latin American to ever win the prestigious Golden Lion at the 72nd Venice International Film Festival for his debut film Desde allá (From afar). Vigas had obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology in 1994, and while he was studying for his Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, he decided to move to New York to attend filmmaking workshops at New York University. Later on, he worked in Caracas directing the documentary series Expedición (Expedition), produced by RCTV, and institutional documentaries for the production company Cinesa. In 2004, his short film Los elefantes nunca olvidan (Elephants never forget) premiered at the Cannes International Critic´s Week. This short film was Part 1 of a fiction trilogy that builds on the theme of the father figure. Part II was Desde allá. In 2016, he presents in Official Section at the 73rd Venice Film Festival, the feature documentary about his father, the renowned Latin American painter Oswaldo Vigas, titled The Orchid Seller. He is currently preparing the last part of his trilogy, La Caja (The box), to be filmed in Mexico at the end of 2017.
