Sinopsis

Carolina regresa a Costa Rica para acercarse a su padre, quién se enferma unos meses después de su llegada. En este proceso, conoce a Ifigenia, arqueóloga experta en las esferas de piedra, el gran enigma arqueológico del país. A través de los objetos, Carolina encuentra una forma de enfrentar la muerte.

Carolina returns to Costa Rica to try to rebuild the relationship with her father. After a few months, her father is diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. At that moment, Carolina meets Ifigenia, an archaeologist expert in the stone spheres found in the south of Costa Rica; the country’s great enigma. She decides to follow Ifigenia’s journey through an erased indigenous history. Through objects and their stories, Carolina learns a different way to relate to death.

Nace en San José, Costa Rica y a sus 12 años migra con su madre y hermana a Bruselas, Bélgica. Es antropóloga (Universidad Libre de Bruselas), productora y directora. En el 2017 funda su productora Mito Producciones. Su primer largometraje como directora “Objetos rebeldes” se estrenó en el IDFA en Noviembre 2020 y recibió el Premio Nacional de Cultura a Mejor Producción. En el 2019, coprodujo con Argentina y Guatemala el corto “I’X (Mujer-Montaña)”, que ha sido seleccionado en más de 15 festivales y en el Smithsonian Indian Museum, obtuvo además mención especial en el Festival Audiovisual El Parque Paraguayo 2020 y fue ganador de la selección oficial del Festival de Cine Etnográfico de Ecuador 2020. Se desempeña como profesora e investigadora de Antropología y cine en la Universidad de Costa Rica y en la Universidad Nacional. Actualmente, se encuentra en la redacción de su tesis de Doctorado sobre Cine, Género y Subjetividad.

She was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1987 and at the age of 12 she migrated with his mother and sister to Brussels, Belgium. She is an anthropologist (University of Brussels), producer and director. In 2017, she founded his production company Mito Producciones. Her first feature film as a director “Rebel objects” premiered at the IDFA in November 2020 and received the National Culture Award for Best Production. In 2019, she co-produced with Argentina and Guatemala the short “I’X (Woman-Mountain)”, which has been selected in more than 15 festivals and at the Smithsonian Indian Museum, and also obtained a special mention at the Festival Audiovisual El Parque Paraguayo 2020 and was the winner of the official selection of the Ethnographic Film Festival of Ecuador 2020. She works as a professor and researcher of Anthropology and cinema at the University of Costa Rica and the National University. Currently, she is in the writing of her PhD thesis on Cinema, Gender and Subjectivity.
