Sinopsis

Al pie de la Cordillera de los Andes en Chile se encuentra una idílica colonia alemana. Sin embargo, la belleza del lugar encierra un pasado lúgubre. En 1961, el predicador alemán Paul Schäfer y su congregación se trasladaron a Chile con el objetivo de ayudar a los pobres. Tras trágicos eventos que tomaron parte desde su llegada, en 2007, Schäfer fue arrestado y la colonia se abrió. Durante ese proceso, la colonia cambió su nombre a Villa Baviera. Alrededor de 120 personas todavía viven allí hoy. Esta película trata sobre ellos, ahora.

At the foot of the Andes Mountains in Chile lies an idyllic German colony. However, the beauty of the place contains a grim past. In 1961, the German preacher Paul Schäfer and his congregation moved to Chile with the stated aim of helping the poor. After tragic events happened after their arrival, in 2007, Schäfer was arrested and the colony opened up. During that process, the colony changed its name to Villa Baviera (Bavarian Village). Around 120 people still live there today. This film is about them – now.

ESTEPHAN WAGNER (Chile, 1976)
Director y editor. Graduado de la Nacional Escuela de Cine y Televisión de Londres. Originalmente formado como editor en Alemania. Wagner ha estado trabajando como documental director durante más de una década. Él dirigió “Last dreams” (2013) que se estrenó en CPH: DOX. Su largometraje documental “Les sauteurs” (2016) tuvo distribución teatral en Alemania, Francia, Reino Unido e Italia, ha sido proyectado en más de 70 festivales de cine y ha ganado más de 15 premios, incluso en el Premio del Jurado Ecuménico en la Berlinale y el Premio Cinema Eye Spotlight.

Director and editor. Graduated from the National Film and Television School in London. Originally trained as an editor in Germany. Wagner has been working as a documentary director for more than a decade. He directed “Last Dreams” (2013) that premiered at CPH:DOX. His feature documentary “Les sauteurs”(2016) had theatrical distribution in Germany, France, the UK and Italy, has been screened at more than 70 film festivals and has won more than 15 awards including at the Ecumenical Jury Award at the Berlinale and the Cinema Eye Spotlight award.

 

MARIANNE HOUGEN-MORAGA (Chile)
Directora. Graduada con una maestría en estudios cinematográficos de la Universidad de Copenhague. Cuenta con una maestría en Documental de Pantalla de Goldsmiths College. Hougen-Moraga ha dirigido varios documentales cortos, como “Returned” (2011), que se estrenó en CPH: DOX, y “Sea of ​​sorrow, sea of ​hope” (2017), que fue nominado a un premio Robert Danés por mejor documental corto. Su debut en el largometraje documental es “Songs of Represssion” (2020), que ha dirigido con Estephan Wagner.

Director. Graduated with a Master’s degree in film studies from Copenhagen University.
